Vor 10 Jahren wurde die Ostafrikanische Gemeinschaft (EAC) von den Staaten Kenia, Uganda und Tansania gegründet. Inzwischen sind ihr auch Rwanda und Burundi beigetreten. Der 10. Jahrestag wird in Arusha/Tansania mit der Unterzeichnung des EAC Protokolls für den Gemeinsamen Markt und der Grundsteinlegung für den Neubau des Hauptsitzgebäudes begangen.

Das Gebäude wurde von einem Consulting-Konsortium unter der Federführung von Grontmij BGS/Frankfurt am Main und Archis/Karlsruhe sowie Runji & Partner/Nairobi geplant mit Unterstützung durch das tansanische Büro Interconsult. Diese Gruppe führt auch die Bauüberwachung durch. Die wesentliche Finanzierung erfolgt im Rahmen der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit mit der EAC durch die Bundesrepublik Deutschland über die Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau.

It was ten years ago that the states of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania founded the East African Community (EAC). Rwanda and Burundi acceded to the EAC in 2007. The main event of the 10th Anniversary celebrations will take place on 20th November 2009 in Arusha/Tanzania with the signing of the EAC Common Market Protocol and the laying of the foundation stone for the new headquarters building of the EAC.

The building was designed by a consortium of consulting firms consisting of Grontmij BGS, Frankfurt/Main (lead partner) and Archis, Karlsruhe as well as Runji & Partners, Nairobi in co-operation with the Tanzanian company Interconsult. This consortium will also be in charge of construction supervision. The project is financed by the Federal Republic of Germany through the German Bank Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) within the framework of the development co-operation with the East African Community.
